Boost Watch, Week 7: October closes with ten at +3

October is closed. Ten of the fourteen Future Stars finished it clean for +3, Makai Lemon scored his first touchdown in a Monday night loss to Dallas, and November is five games long, the hardest month on the calendar to run clean.

Monday night is in, and October is closed. Cowboys 38, Eagles 21: Dallas rolls, and Philadelphia drops its fifth straight. Both of the cards still pending played, which settles the month at ten of fourteen on a full +3.

October’s final numbers, which the next update pays. Peter Woods and Derrick Moore had their byes in October, so three games was a clean month for both. Avieon Terrell’s Week 7 inactive is his only miss, which is +2. Fernando Mendoza played once in four, which is +1.

October final, Weeks 4 to 7:

Ten of fourteen at the maximum. That is a far better October than it looked like being when Price went on injured reserve in Week 4.

The ten who played

MAKAI LEMON — WR, Philadelphia Eagles. His best game of the year. He caught a 4-yard touchdown from Tanner McKee in the third quarter to put the Eagles up 21–20, the first touchdown of his career. Philadelphia could not hold it: Dak Prescott threw three scores and Javonte Williams ran for a career-high 155. The bigger news is that Jalen Hurts is out for the season with blood clots in his lungs, so McKee is the quarterback the rest of the way. For Lemon that is close to neutral on availability. McKee threw 35 passes here, and Lemon ran a team-high 45 routes on 49 dropbacks in Week 6. The risk is the record: at 2–5 and losing, Philadelphia is more likely to look at younger receivers, not fewer.

CALEB DOWNS — S, Dallas Cowboys. Played. He was not on the inactive list, carries no injury designation, and has been on 196 of 204 possible defensive snaps in the games that have been charted. His tackle line is not posted yet, but Dallas’s every-down safety did not sit out a division game the Cowboys won by 17.

VEGA IOANE — OG, Baltimore Ravens. The real October hangover. He banked his +3 by playing a single quarter before his knee forced him out. He is expected back on 1 November, which is Week 8, and Baltimore has no bye until Week 13, so November asks him for five straight games on a knee that just took him out of one.

ARVELL REESE — LB, New York Giants. Four for four and a clean +3. His bye falls in Week 8, so November asks four games of him rather than five.

ANTHONY HILL — LB, Tennessee Titans. Four for four and a clean +3, with his bye in Week 9.

MAX IHEANACHOR — OT, Pittsburgh Steelers. Four for four and a clean +3. Pittsburgh’s bye is also in Week 9.

KENYON SADIQ — TE, New York Jets. A clean +3, but on a shrinking snap share, and with no bye in November he needs all five games.

JAKE SLAUGHTER — C, Los Angeles Chargers. A clean +3. No bye in November either, but a center who plays every snap is as close to automatic as this set gets.

PETER WOODS — DT, Kansas City Chiefs. Three games and a bye for a clean +3. With the bye already used, November is five games with no cushion.

DERRICK MOORE — DE, Detroit Lions. Three games and a bye for a clean +3. Like Woods he has no November bye, and like Sadiq he is playing on a shrinking snap share.

Who sat out?

FERNANDO MENDOZA — QB, Las Vegas Raiders. One appearance in October and three games without a snap, which is +1. November has no bye for Las Vegas, so it is five more weeks to find a snap.

Injury report

AVIEON TERRELL — CB, Atlanta Falcons. Inactive in Week 7 with a back injury and illness, which costs him one point: +2 for October. His situation got worse, not better. A.J. Terrell is off injured reserve and expected to start, and Avieon was already down to 26 snaps in Week 4. He has gone from a shrinking role to backup behind his brother.

JADARIAN PRICE — RB, Seattle Seahawks. Nothing from October, but he is eligible to return in Week 8, and that is worth watching. Seattle’s bye is in Week 11, so November is four games for him. Activated for Week 8, he could run the month clean for +3. A Week 9 return caps it at +2.

JORDYN TYSON — WR, New Orleans Saints. No October appearance and no boost. New Orleans has its bye in Week 8, so if his debut does come in Week 9, November’s four remaining games are all ahead of him and a clean +3 is still possible.

The month ahead

November is Weeks 8 to 12. Five games makes it the hardest month on the calendar to run clean, and seven of the fourteen get a bye to shorten it:

The seven with no cushion, Caleb Downs, Vega Ioane, Kenyon Sadiq, Jake Slaughter, Peter Woods, Derrick Moore and Fernando Mendoza, need all five. Slaughter and Downs are still close to automatic. Ioane is now the question mark. Sadiq and Moore are both on shrinking snap shares, which is the quiet way a streak ends.
