Rarity runs: what actually counts as Gold

Card type follows OVR on a fixed band — 75 and up is Gold, 65 to 74 is Silver, everything below is Bronze. Special sets sit on top and do not change the band.

Rarity requirements confuse people because two different things are printed on the same card. The metal — Bronze, Silver, Gold — follows OVR on a fixed band. A 74 is Silver, a 75 is Gold, and there is nothing in between.

The special set is separate. Weekend League, Hero, Player of the Month: these ride on top of the metal band, so a Weekend League card is still whatever metal its OVR says it is.

This trips up boards that ask for both. "Rarity must be Weekend League" is a special set requirement and will not be satisfied by a Gold card that happens to be expensive. Read which of the two the challenge is actually asking for before you start buying.

The cheapest way through a metal-band requirement is almost always to sit exactly on the boundary. If the board wants three Silvers, three 65s do the job as well as three 74s, and they cost a fraction as much — provided your total OVR budget can absorb the difference.
