Boost Watch: October is paid

The second Future Stars update paid exactly what Boost Watch, Week 7 projected. Ten cards are 88, Avieon Terrell is 87, Jadarian Price 85, Fernando Mendoza 84 and Jordyn Tyson 83. Two updates are left, and the ten at 88 can still reach 94.

The October update has landed, and a set that launched as fourteen 82s now holds five different ratings. Ten cards played every October game they had and took +3 for the second month running, on the rating and on each of the three stats under it. That puts all ten on 88. Every one of the fourteen is in the Player Database on its new number, so a challenge built here is costed against what the cards are worth today.

Ten clean months took +3 and are 88. Avieon Terrell missed one game for +2 and is 87. Fernando Mendoza played once in four for +1 and is 84. Jadarian Price and Jordyn Tyson missed all four, took nothing, and stay on 85 and 83.

Where all fourteen stand

Two updates in, this is what each card has climbed since it launched at 82:

The ten at 88 have not missed a game all season. Every point the other four are behind comes from games missed, and none from how anyone played.

The Week 7 numbers held

Boost Watch, Week 7 closed October with a projection for every card: ten at +3, Terrell at +2, Mendoza at +1, and nothing for Price or Tyson. The update paid all fourteen exactly that. A month is settled by the games a card misses, and each week’s Boost Watch keeps that count. Plan November off its projections the same way.

Four missed pays nothing

September left the bottom of the ladder unpaid. Missing all three games that month still paid +1, because three missed sits inside the band that pays one. October ran four games, and Price and Tyson missed all four. Both took nothing, the first time a Future Star has gone a month without moving.

Every rung on the ladder has now paid a card:

November is five games long, which opens the one case the game has not paid yet: a single game played and four missed. The published bands do not cover it. Mendoza, with no November bye and a starter ahead of him, is the card most likely to settle it.

The four below 88

AVIEON TERRELL — CB, Atlanta Falcons. An 87, one point behind the ten, and the point was his Week 7 inactive with a back injury and illness. The job is the bigger problem. A.J. Terrell is off injured reserve and expected to start, which puts Avieon behind his brother. Atlanta’s bye is in Week 11, so November asks four games of him, and as a backup he has to be active for all four.

FERNANDO MENDOZA — QB, Las Vegas Raiders. An 84 off one October appearance, his debut in the Week 5 blowout. Kirk Cousins played every snap of the close games either side of it. Las Vegas has no bye in November, so he needs a snap in all five games for +3, and in at least two to be sure of +1.

JADARIAN PRICE — RB, Seattle Seahawks. An 85 and unchanged, after a month on injured reserve that covered all four games. He is eligible to return in Week 8, and Seattle’s bye is in Week 11, so November is four games for him. Activated for Week 8 and kept on the field, he takes +3. A Week 9 return caps the month at +2.

JORDYN TYSON — WR, New Orleans Saints. An 83 and unchanged, still waiting on his first snap of the season. New Orleans has its bye in Week 8, and the reporting has pointed to a Week 9 home debut against Cleveland. If that holds, all four of his November games are ahead of him and a clean +3 is open.

What it means for your database

All fourteen are on their new ratings, so nothing needs typing in. If you raised one by hand already, your number is kept rather than overwritten.

The spread changes what each card is for. The ten 88s are two updates from 94, and submitting one hands over a card with up to six points still to come. Terrell at 87 and Price at 85 are Rare Gold with them. Mendoza at 84 and Tyson at 83 are the only two still in the Gold band, which makes them the only Future Stars a Gold row will take. Team of the Week cards fill Gold slots too works through why a set card counts as its metal.

If a Future Star has to go into a challenge this month, spend Mendoza. He is an 84 with the hardest path to another boost in the set. Tyson is a point lower, but a Week 9 debut gives him a clean path to +3 that Mendoza does not have.

Going into November

November is Weeks 8 to 12, five games, and the longest month left. Two updates remain, for November’s games and December’s, so the ten at 88 can reach 91 next time and 94 at the last. Seven of the fourteen get a bye to shorten the month:

The other seven need all five: Caleb Downs, Olaivavega Ioane, Kenyon Sadiq, Jake Slaughter, Peter Woods, Derrick Moore and Fernando Mendoza. What to expect from the fourteen:
